Annual BDXG Dinner and Prize-giving 2010

BDXG Trophies 2009On the evening of Saturday 20th March several BDXG members and invited special guests attended the 3rd Annual Club Dinner and Prizegiving in The Gresham Suite at The Feather's Hotel in Holt. Numbers were unfortunately down on previous years due to many members having other commitments, but these things happen and all in all we had a good evening. However at the meeting following it was felt on the whole that the food and service wasn’t up to the standard of the previous year and we will be seeking an alternative venue for 2011.

We would like to thank Malcolm Prestwood G3PDH (NARC President), Bob Finch GØHYZ (NNARG Secretary) and his wife Sheila for joining us, I hope they enjoyed themselves it was very nice to see them. Sadly it became all too apparent when surveying the club trophy presentation pictures after the event, how much we missed the BDXG's No.1 photographer, Robin GØSIQ!

BWBF Official Presentation

Ken lifts trophies on behalf of BDXGThe Official BWBF "Transmission 2009" trophy presentation was held on Saturday 6th March at 2.30pm at NNAB headquarters in Norwich. We must thank Donna Hewitt (NNAB) and her Mum for kindly giving up their free time to open the premises and the cafe especially for the presentation. There was a good turnout of BDXG members Steve (G7VRK), Roy (G1NGE), Alec (G3YOA), Linda (GØAJJ), Peter (M3YKX) and his grand daughter Emily, Duncan (MØWTG) with Sharon and Molly, Robin (GØSIQ) and Kenny (M6KAH) who was chuffed to bits to receive the trophies on behalf of the club. We felt it was appropriate for him to be selected as he is registered blind. Even the weather smiled on us after such a wet miserable week and we arrived in Norwich with the sun shining for a change! We were greeted at the door by Donna who quickly provided us with tea, coffee and biscuits.

BDXG announce NNAB link up

NNAB logoAfter five years of successful fundraising on behalf of the British Wireless for the Blind Fund, the Bittern DX Group felt it was time for a change in 2010.

Our priority this time around was to raise funds solely for a Norfolk-based charity, several were discussed and despite their many merits most were rejected . Having blind members already receiving assistance from the Norfolk and Norwich Association to the Blind's equipment centres. As the NNAB receives no state funding and is a totally local independent charity, it was decided to approach them.

BDXG's enquiry I must say he was met with great enthusiasm and we've had several contacts with them to organise an event and a raffle to raise funds. We are pleased to say plans are going very well and the dates will be published here soon.

BDXG FL4 Course Successes

On Sunday 24th January 2010 at Antingham Village Hall it was examination day for the six candidates on the BDXG FL4 course, plus one retake from FL3. Considering the snow and ice that limited attendance to the first part of the course on 10th January it was a very good turnout on FL4. For those candidates who could not make it due to the severe weather, they had been offered places on FL5 due to take place in March.

BDXG are glad to report that out of the 7 candidates that took the examination, 5 were successful with two achieving a 100% pass score. Well done to all the candidates, we look forward to hearing you on the bands soon and once again thank you to the BDXG team of instructors.

If you are interested in amateur radio we still have some places left on the next course, so contact us for availability.
