| BDXG's Contest review of 2009 |
|
As the year of 2009 draws to a end it is time to review the achievements of the Bittern DX Group as a whole and compare them to previous years. It was an extremely busy year for BDXG on the contest front, with excellent performances in four of the RSGB Club Championships. Which culminated in the group securing its first RSGB Contest Certificate due to an excellent 4th place finish in only our second year of participation. We managed to consolidate our 2008 performance with our second Top10 finish in the 80m Club Championships but we unfortunately dropped a place this time around to finish in10th spot. BDXG also managed 5th position in the 70cm CC at our first real attempt, aswell as 13th position in the 50 MHz Club Championships. A first attempt at the VHF National Field Day contest in July saw the club finish in a wonderful third position in the restricted section. Quite remarkable that we managed such a respectable achievement in our first year, we were rather short of operators for the 24 hours but hopefully 2010 will see increased interest among the membership? Unfortunately we will have to use a new location at our previous site at Trimingham is unavailable, but we have other irons in the fire!!
However the RSGB SSB Field Day contest was a different matter when BDXG had its best ever score and finish with 6th position in the open section achieved. The club did have new location in 2009 aswell as the addition of a P60 trailer mast, we hope to be even better equipped in 2010. All in all, an excellent year... |

We had an indifferent RSGB IOTA contest, probably our worst finish in five attempts but I suppose to be expected when you are not DX location or exotic multiplier (EU005) being Mainland England. But we nonetheless had fun and worked some nice DX!
