Lighthouses on air.

The first reaction on seeing the building, of course, is that it has two towers, a ‘proper’ one at the west and a curious, spindly beacon rising to the south-east of the chancel. This has been adapted to hold a light, and perhaps that is what it was always for, so that a ship coming into the now-silted up harbour could use the two towers to navigate home.

We are activating probably the only church tower “lighthouse” in the UK, the “ mariners light” at Blakeney on the 19th 20th August as part of the lighthouses on air.

We need your support to put this event on as yet I do not have enough people willing to help to set up and take down the station, this year is the first time that the Bittern club has had permission to set up the station in the church yard please volunteer to give your club a hand.

All visitors over the weekend will be welcome Radio Amateurs or non Radio Amateurs Why not pop along to see us in action activating the Mariners light from the grounds of St Nicholas Church in Blakeney village. Pop Blakeney into your sat nav or try NR25 7UE
