For the Mills on the Air event in May, the Bittern DX Group towed the Club Caravan and kit to set up home for the weekend beside Gunton Park Sawmill, a rather lovely privately owned early 19th Century, thatched Water Powered Sawmill that has been preserved and now restored to working order over the past 30 years, set in the beautiful North Norfolk Countryside. (Longitude: 1.30123 E Latitude: 52.8527 N QTH locator: JO02PU).
The weekend saw a steady stream of visitors to the Mill and the caravan where a great deal
of interest was shown in our operations. There was also a visit from the BBC Radio Norfolk Treasure Quest team chasing a clue held at the Mill. On the air, the Bittern DX Group once more received an honourable mention, the Treasure Quest team remembering visiting us recently for the Guides on the Air weekend recently.
Operating with the callsign GB1GSM, we ran the Club Yaesu MP1000 feeding a Windom OCF antenna strung in the woods and we achieved remarkably good results given the environment achieving 148 QSOs, 27 being with other Mills or SESs.
All in all a great relaxed weekend with lovely weather in beautiful surroundings doing what we like to do best!
